Strong quake hits North Island

A massive earthquake registering 7.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale has been felt across wide areas of the North Island.
GNS Science said the quake was centred north of Raoul Island, north east of Auckland and was 188 kilometres deep.
It struck at 8.28 pm.
The area is part of a massive fault line and regularly produces very large quakes.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii says they registered the quake at 7.9 and said "based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected".
