A 29-year-old New Zealand man who allegedly used the internet to procure sexual favours from a child has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

Whangarei-born Shaun Kenneth Bannan did not appear during today's brief hearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court.

He was arrested on Saturday after allegedly conversing with a covert police officer, whom it is alleged he thought was a girl under 16, via the internet between September 2006 and February 2007.

He was arrested at Brisbane International Airport after he flew in from New Zealand.

His arrest was made as part of the ongoing Taskforce Argos.

Bannan faces one count each of procuring a child over the internet and using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

He did not apply for bail and will reappear in court for mention next month.

Taskforce Argos is a Queensland Police anti-paedophilia and child pornography squad.
