A photograph of Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker presenting a young woman with a sex toy has been removed from a website.
Parker briefly attended a second anniversary party for website Slynkey.com, which features a "sealed section" for reviews of dildos, bondage cuffs and erotic fiction, and presented a large pink vibrator as a prize to one of the guests.
The picture was pulled from the website yesterday, but Parker said he had nothing to do with the disappearance of the image.
"No harm was intended, but I would much rather I was not put in a compromising position and then someone took a photograph and exhibited it. It was perhaps a lapse in taste and judgment by the designer of the site," he said.
"It was a lot of fun and there was one prize of a dubious nature and I was not even aware I was going to be presenting the prize ... I am glad the photograph is no longer there."
Parker said media coverage of the photograph was "ridiculous".
Slynkey.com marketing manager Daniel Higgins said the picture was removed from the website because it was not representative of the event.
"We thought we should take it down. It was an editorial decision. The only reason we pulled it was because it did not represent why Bob Parker had attended," he said. "The sex toys and topless waiters were a small element of it (the event)."
