Police will meet the parents of South Otago teenager Blake Stott in the wake of a television show that used psychics to shed light on the mystery of their son's death.

What do you think of TV shows that use psychics to reveal more about deaths and disappearances? Post your comments below.

Mr Stott died in a fire in his car in a layby in 2006 and the cause of the fire was never identified.

In an episode of the TVNZ show Sensing Murder on Tuesday, psychics Kelvin Cruickshank and Sue Nicholson said Mr Stott had driven his car, which was his pride and joy, to a layby 3km from Owaka, south of Balclutha, so it would be safe.

He was a responsible young man who had saved hard to buy the car and was a non-smoker.

Mr Stott was asleep in the driver's seat of the car when two people drove up and as a practical joke threw a cigarette butt, match or lighter in the back seat of the car, the psychics said.

The psychics gave a detailed description of the two men and their vehicles but stopped short of publicly naming them.

The psychics said there was a third person who knew the details of Mr Stott's death, possibly someone who one of the men had confided in.

Dunedin and Clutha area commander Inspector Dave Campbell said today that he would meet with Mr Stott's parents and as with any case police would follow up if there was new evidence.

The cause of the fire had not been identified in investigations at the time but this was not unusual in cases of severe fires.

There were no indication in the inquiry at the time that any other party was involved, Mr Campbell said.

"As with anything if anyone comes with new information then we will look it.

"At the end of the day is a psychic's opinion evidence?"

Mr Stott's mother, Adraian Stott, said the family had gone to the show's psychics for answers, not publicity, the Southland Times reported.

The show traced the 19-year-old's last steps before his death on June 11, 2006.

Mrs Stott said she and the family did not want to comment further on their decision to go to the television show but she said the psychics had provided the answers she had been looking for.

"They were very sensitive to us. This is still hard two years later we're still very fragile."

As a mum and a unconditional love for my children I sympathise with blakes Mother and Father, in these circumstances, a tragic event has happened to someones son, brother, yet a death of a child is traumatic enough to alert all parents what treasures our children are weather they are infant to adulthood they still are our children, Who are we to judge peoples opnion of spirituality and the gifts that they share with those whom are in need for answers good or bad, I support any person whom is willing to find answers in confiding in clairvoyants, or (mate-kite my culture. we never forget the pain of losing someone dear to us yet it is worst losing a child at the hand of someone else with no evidential facts, so to those non believers of clairvoyancy, stop judging and one day you may need answers that you may not be able to understand! seek and you shall find... aroha nu nui ki te whanau o Blake..

Wow. I find it amazing that people are still so small minded in this day and age. Mind you, when you're thinking through fear instead of through love you're bound to bag that which you give no effort to understand.

"Those who believe don't need any proof. Those who don't will never accept any proof."

Most people have no idea how pretending spirit doesn't exist affects kids. It's neither witchcraft nor occult. Just ask your kids. Or maybe it's too late, and you've talked them into thinking they're imagining what they're seeing.

If only people could let go of the fear we could all just get back to God.

Love and light x x x

"witchcraft & the occult"... posted by a Christian perhaps? One of the most brain-washing, ill-conceived and supersticious belief systems ever devised. Come on humans, wake up and realise there's more to this world than the consensus reality that is rammed down our throats from birth.

It never ceases to amaze me how small minded some people are! Yes Eating Media Lunch did a story on Deb Webber with fake information and possibly set her up to fail. After all isn't the point of such programs to entertain?? As for the comments on endorsing witchcraft and the occult....where the hell do you get that from? Did you see them peforming a seance with candles, a crystal ball and some burning incence?? Did you see them going into a trance and seem to take on the spirts...NO!! Something else you probably don't know is that majority of these psychics have alot of faith in a higher power and tend to talk regularly to it. (As my guess is your comments come from some religious beliefs probably the same ones that won't let your children read or watch anything to do with harry potter!) so they would be the last people to endorse any kind of witchcraft or occult activities! Open your mind a little and try and break out of that little glass box you live in. No one is asking you to believe it is all true but at least be open to the possibility that there may be something else to this world than meets the eye!

Whilst I haven't communicated with spirits, I'd never be so closed-minded as to rubbish the possibility of an existence after death.

I think the 'Sensing Murder' TV series is fascinating and whether or not you believe in 'spirits' at least psychics can offer some source of comfort to grieving loved ones - when nothing else can.

For those who are concerned about how children are being influenced by shows like this, get a life! Surely there are far worse things on TV that need to be censored.

I don`t beleive any of the comments with a a skeptical stance are Christians. A Skeptical Christian is a bit of an Oxymoron !

People with a generally skeptical opinion are extremely open minded, in the fact they keep there mind open until they they see any facts which present something as being real.

The ones with closed minds are usually the believers, Christians and Psychic believers alike.

Believers tend to ignore discussing facts and evidence and would rather say it is others who have closed minds.

Sensing Murder is for entertainment (in sick kind of way). It has shown in several countries with 0 crimes solved to date.

If these psychics were genuine they would have given lead information to the police of many of the recent murders to date - which they haven`t.

I can not believe the many posts that are negative towards other peoples beliefs. I'm sure all of you out there ( and you know who you are) dont walk into a church and stand at the front of the church and preach your beliefs because you dont believe in what they believe in so why here. All of you negative SAD SAD PEOPLE, have no rights to judge a family who is going through grief that most of you would have never expierenced or could comprehend SO HOW DARE YOU JUGDE ( I am personally going through something very similar and seeking help from a medium). I dont understand why any of you "BLINDED PEOPLE" are even bothering to watch Sensing Murder if you dont understand the purpose of the show that would be like me watching rugby I wouldn't even bother as I have no interest so why are you watching something you have no interest in is it so then you can bleep on about nothing in particular just to be heard. Well so much for compassion to others and all you no belivers out not once have you shown any respect to Blake's family and friends who through their own choice chose to contact the programme for their own needs not to get Nonsense Feedback. Thank You TVNZ for bringing a programme that can help alot of people.

In response to # 236.

Thats fine Colin, if you dont want to watch the show then dont, but dont act like parts of it are made up and untrue when you have not watched it, since you're clearly to up yourself to have an open mind.

You asked where they got the information from about the police telling them to go on the show, so I told you. Another poster was also kind enough too as well.

Why do you feel the need to have everything scientifically explained? Maybe there is not evidence and you cant put these people in a lab and make run around doing experiments to prove themselves. Maybe they dont feel the need to prove themselves to people like you. They truly know what they're capable of and thats all that matters.

Like I said before, people like you are just scared of the unknown and what can not be explained through science. Thats fine, but dont put other peple down for what they believ in.

Lauren   #242   05:26 pm Jan 28 2009

Why shouldn't it be on tv? it's ratings are good they have even won awards and it helps solves murders. kids shouldn't be watching it anyway it's on at 8.30 which is when heaps of the little kids are in bed and adult tv starts.
