Josh Kronfeld has been given the boot from Dancing with the Stars after a performance of two halves.
The former All Black was eliminated from the live TV One competition after performing two dances in the semi-final - one good and one bad.
He and dance partner Rachel Burstein scored just 24 points for their cha cha, but improved for the tango, which earned them 31 points.
"Someone has to go and I'm the one," said Kronfeld after his elimination. "It's been a great journey and I've had a fantastic time. It's been a hoot.
"I'm going surfing this week."
Kronfeld and Burstein suffered the wrath of the judges for their cha cha, described as "stilted, stiff and stodgy" by Craig Revel Horwood.
"I have wooden shutters at home that have more movement in them," he said.
But Kronfeld stepped it up for the tango. At the end of the dance, he dumped Burstein on the judges' desk and had them flustered as arguments broke out over his performance.
Brendon Cole praised the dance, but Horwood said it lacked "any real passion".
"You're showing your lack of knowledge," said Cole to Horwood.
"Two words: cat scan," replied Horwood.
Despite topping the leaderboard, Coffey found himself in the bottom two up against Kronfeld.
He earned 37 points for his jive, which was praised by Paul Mercurio as "the best performance of the series," and another 37 for the rumba.
"You were an inch away from magic," said Mercurio.
Kendall scored 34 points for her rumba, and 37 for the foxtrot.
"You demonstrated control and strength," said Horwood. "This is the first time we've seen you quiet and reserved with a little bit of sensuality."
Coffey and Kendall will peform three dances in next week's final, which will also feature a performance by crooner Ronan Keating.

I am glad they finally got rid of Josh !!! he has no Idea about dancing, he moves stiff, he looks stupid and his ATTITUDE was reallyawful !! if he wasb't an ex-all black, he would and shold have been thrown out after the first show. the public is REALLY oneeyed !!!!! I hope Tamati will win next week
Jim#35 Just because you don't know Tamati doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be on the show. Breakfast has a huge audience, and he has loads of fans. I hope Tamati wins!
Now Rachael has gone, I will no longer watch the show, she was the only incentive to watch. Let face it there's not much else to look at.
I thought Tamati would be in the final from the start just due to his go get them attitude, well done, and didnb't Barbara use to own a dance studio ???
Whats going on with that Craig? There was no need for the way he vilified Josh last night in the 2nd dance. He should be the one voted off. I voted for Josh because of him.
Do you think there is something going on between Rachel && Josh ??
Well done Josh you did well i wanted you to go to the finals but oh well My next faves are going to have to tme Tamati Coffey and Samantha KIA KAHA
Josh probably did deserve to go, the other two couples are better I however voted for Josh A guy who reads the weather in the morning on some unknown show is hardly a celebrity and shouldnt even be on the show!!
disappointed to see josh leave, but will now be voting for tamati next week!!! I agree with ann #25, and people should be less critical of them, its not like they are doing it for themselves. what was that comment stefano made?? I cant remember thinking anything of it at the time??
Really, either the Hobbs woman or even Geraldine should have outlasted this guy but their popularity was not to be. Stefano's off colour remark might have done it as well but that probably reflected his frustration at being paired up with G. I am sure they did that deliberately so he would not win a third time in a row as much as Gerladine tried her best with her physical disability and her witty remarks (tall foreign poppy always gets hammered here in jealous NZ!) Now we have narrowed it down to the 2 real competitors and who wins will be decided basically by who is more popular and less by talent.

It's a shame that the show doesn't utilise itself as a vehicle to showcase local NZ upandcoming talent instaed of boring old Frankie Stevens and the average overseas Singer Potts. it's time our national broadcasters come out into the real world and find out that NZ has talent in the entertainment field as well as sports etc.
