Woman assaulted in home

A woman was assaulted after a man broke into her Christchurch home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police say the assault took place at about 5.15am at an address on Rotherham Street in Riccarton and the man was last seen at about 5.30am running from the area at the corner of Rotherham Street and Dilworth Street.

Police are seeking an olive-skinned male of average height, with dark hair cut short and a solid build with muscular arms.

An amount of blood was left at the scene which police believe belongs to the attacker who had an injury of some sort.
