Teenager charged with murder
A 19-year-old man who handed himself into police has been charged with the murder of Sedrick Tilley Tiatia, 38, in north Hamilton yesterday.
Emergency services were called to a house in Winstone Ave, Chartwell, shortly before 2pm yesterday.
Ambulance staff treated Tiatia, but the injured man died at the scene.
A post mortem examination to be conducted in Auckland would hopefully tell police how Tiatia suffered his fatal injures, Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson of the Hamilton CIB said
"We are currently conducting five scene examinations at present including one at the Winstone Ave address in Chartwell where Mr Tiatia died.
"Hopefully, by later today the scene at Winstone Ave will be sufficiently progressed to allow us to remove his body and conduct the post-mortem," Patterson said.
Overnight police had searched a number of Auckland properties.
"Despite this arrest, police are still searching a number of properties and a vehicle as they search for forensic evidence to build our case."
Detectives still wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in or around Winstone Ave between 1 and 2pm yesterday, Patterson said.
"Anyone else who may have information who hasn’t already spoken to investigators is asked to ring the Hamilton Central police station on 07 858 6200."
The charged man is to appear in Hamilton District Court tomorrow.
