Our comments policy

This Privacy Policy applies to your use of the Stuff website (the Site) and to any personal information about you collected by Fairfax Media via any of its websites, publications or otherwise for any reason.  It applies to use by both visitors to the Site and all customers who use any goods, products or services that we provide on or through a website including when you register for Stuff Nation services such as emails; newsletters, updates and offers of products.

We may from time to time at our discretion review and update this policy, including to take account of any change in law, new technology and/or changes to our operations. All personal information held by us will be governed by the most recent policy.  Any changes will take effect immediately once they are posted on our Site.  


What Information we Collect:

Personal Information

In general, the personal information that we may collect about you includes (but is not limited to) your name, contact details (including phone numbers and addresses) and possibly financial information (including credit card information).  We may also collect demographic information such as your age, gender, preferences and interests. We do not collect sensitive information such as your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions or religious beliefs. You may be asked to supply that personal information voluntarily. This will enable us to provide you with services such as emails; newsletters; updates and offers of products that you have expressed an interest in.

Non Personal Information

We also collect information about you which is not personal information.  For example when you use one of our websites our server, our agent's or contractor's server (Server) logs the following information via tracking technologies such as cookies, which is provided by your browser:

*your server's IP address (a number which is unique to the machine through which you are connected to the Internet) or your personal IP address
*the type of browser and operating system you are using
*the domain name of the referring Sites (e.g. the previous Sites that you visited).

The Server also logs:

a)      the date and time of your visit;

b)      the URL address of the pages accessed and the documents downloaded.

Ad Feedback

This information does not personally identify you. For example we may collect data relating to activities on our websites via tracking technologies such as cookies.  We analyse this non-personal information for certain trends and statistics, such as which parts of the Site users are visiting, which features or services are most popular and to measure the effectiveness of advertising. We do not disclose information about individuals except for the reasons set out below.

How we collect it

There are times when we may need personal information from you and you are asked to supply that information. This may be when you request a product or service from us, register with us, provide a product or service to us, complete a survey or questionnaire, enter a competition or event, participate in our services i.e. blog or forum or when you communicate with us by email, telephone or in writing.    

How we use Personal Information

We will only use your personal information for the purpose for which you have provided it, unless you consent otherwise or we are required by law to disclose it.

The primary purpose for which we collect information about you is to provide you with information, products and services that you have requested or expressed an interest in. We may state a more specific purpose at the point that we collect your information.    If you do not provide us with information requested we may not be able to provide you with the services that you have requested. We may use this personal information to help us to  provide the services to you, verify your identity,  enforce or apply our terms and conditions,  protect the rights of Fairfax Media,  or for internal research purposes, for promoting and marketing  Fairfax Media products and services to you, and for any other use that you authorise.  You will be given the option of unsubscribing from any commercial electronic message that we send you promoting goods or services.

By registering on a website and selecting the option to receive certain services by email, text or otherwise you consent to receive communications from us that relate to the services you choose (by express consent or otherwise).  We may send you information based on the parts of the Site that you visit or the links that you click on. For the purposes of optimising the emails we may send you and tailoring those emails to you internet, we will also collect information about the topics/blogs/links that you click on, read about or choose to receive information about.  You will have the option of opting out of receiving emails and other information at any time by using the one click option to "unsubscribe" from the email newsletters.

We do not sell, rent or lease our visitor or customer information to third parties unless we have your express consent to do so.   Your personal information will only be disclosed to those employees who have a need to know.

Where we receive information about your session or about you, we may use that information to conduct market research surveys, for statistical analysis to determine Site usage, to run competitions and for direct marketing purposes relating to our business, to tailor our Services to match your needs and improve the Site generally.

Targetted Advertising

We may use information about your visits to our sites or that you have provided to use to improve the relevance of your online advertising experience. We will not disclose any of your personal data to a third party and you will remain anonymous online.

We encourage you to review the privacy statements of websites if you follow links from a Fairfax website to them, so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information. We are not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on websites linked to from the Site.

Updating your personal information

You have the right to seek access to and to update the personal information that we hold about you.
