Is this the greatest music festival ever?

perryOh. My. God. Check. This. Out. This. Is Awesome. I. Am. So. Excited. I. Can. Only. Talk. One. Word. At. A. Time. I. Know. It. Is. Really. Annoying. So. I. Will. Stop. Typing. For. A. Minute. And. Catch. My. Breath. In. And. Out. In. And. Out. In. And. Out...

Phew. There we go. The reason I'm so excited is I just feasted my green-tinged eyes on the lineup for Lollapalooza. Holy heck. If I was going to sit down and create a personalised music festival, this would be it.

It's incredible. It's surely the great music festival in the history of music festivals. And I thought the lineup for the 2000 Big Day Out couldn't be beat. And that had Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chemical Brothers. My ribs still haven't recovered from all that moshing.

But check out the lineup for the three-day Lollapalooza festival at Chicago's Grant Park on August 7-9: Tool. The Killers. Jane's Addiction. Beastie Boys. Kings of Leon. Depeche Mode. Ben Harper. Rise Against. TV on the Radio. Animal Collective. Band of Horses. Arctic Monkeys. Silversun Pickups. Fleet Foxes. And Santigold (no, it's not a typo - she's changed her name, so shut up smart bum).

Then there's these guys: Crystal Castles. Kid Cudi. Simian Mobile Disco. A-Trak. The Decemberists. Vampire Weekend. Bon Iver. White Lies. Bat for Lashes. Passion Pit. Gomez. Friendly Fires. The Knux. And Ra Ra Riot.

Excuse me while I just Arrrrrrgh! Mmmfftt! and Snnnrrrggggttt! for a while. No, I'm not eating another muffin, I'm just really, really excited, and jealous of anyone who lives close enough to be able to go.

All of that is on sale for just US$205. That's around four hundred New Zealand dollars. With airfares, accommodation, pocket money and donuts, I'm looking at around $5000.

Sorry, little piggy, but it's time to break the bank.

If only I had one.

Summer Slaughter down at the Kings Arms last month was way better.

I don't know if that one can be beat, Chris - I love all those bands, including Bon Iver who I just got turned on to.

A little closer to home, have you seen this leaked/alleged Splendour in the Grass (Brisbane) lineup? Looks pretty good too:

Bloc Party, Janes Addiction, Flaming Lips, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Friendly Fires, MGMT, The Specials

Personally, if Janes play, I bet NIN do as well (and make this part of their tour together)

The Parihaka festival always has amazing line ups. And the atmosphere there is second to none. It takes a top place for my summer.

Almost every single one of those bands announced is awesome, but you'd never have time to see all of them. Clashes are always inevitable. But Splendour in the Grass is also looking good. We need more music festivals here: Big Day Out and R&V are not enough!!!!!

Coachella always has tremendous lineups, this year was no exception. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Coachella_Valley_Music_and_Arts_Festival

If I had to pick one of the years I think it would be 2007 though.
