Is Eminem headlining the BDO?
So I wasn't going to write about this again until the actual announcement is made in a couple of weeks, but this concert rumour is so good, so weird, and so out of left field that I can't help myself.
According to three different rumours (read them here, here and here), rapper Eminem might be headlining the Big Day Out. Really?
The festival does need a bit of a fresh look at things and while Eminem isn't exactly the drawcard he might have been, say, five years ago, it's a hell of a lot fresher than having another Neil Young-type taking over the headlining slot.
I'm not a big fan, but the fact is, Eminem would be massively entertaining. I'd certainly want to see him perform just in case he did something completely over the top and outrageous. Like bring Dr Dre with him. Or brandish that chainsaw and hockey mask again. Or mention that Mariah Carey relationship again.
There have been other rumours, like Faith No More, Weezer, Blur, Blink 182 and - yikes - Limp Bizkit. I say 'hell yes', 'I'll be there', 'maybe', 'meh' and 'HELL NO PLEASE GOD NO FREAKING WAY I'M GOING TO GO HIDE UNDER MY BED FOR A BIT' to those. In that order.
And it seems Grizzly Bear are an almost certainty to be performing after they made this premature announcement in a recent interview. I'd rather see them at the Kings Arms or Powerstation rather than a noisy mid-afternoon slot at the BDO, so here's hoping for a sideshow.
And the next Rhythm and Vines lineup announcement is made on Wednesday. I've got my fingers crossed for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (they're headlining a New Year's festival in Australia anyway). Let's hope it doesn't turn out to be Yeah Yeah Nah.
Of course, if none of that gets you excited, you'll just have to save up and head over the ditch to the Soundwave 2010 Festival, being headlined by Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, My Chemical Romance, AFI, Paramore, Taking Back Sunday, Isis, Trivium and - get the horns ready - Reel Big Fish. You bogan, you.

I heard the Tupac is going to make his comeback at the BDO.
You forgot to mention that the mighty Clutch are at Soundwave. I've got my tickets already... the only downside of Soundwave is that it's out at Eastern Creek which is more or less the middle of nowhere. Still, I predict the line-up will once again show BDO up to be the second-rate festival that it is.
I doubt Faith No More will be at BDO if they are playing Soundwave. I had heard a Muse rumour but I'll believe that when I see it.
If Eminem goes I will be there. Forget the fact I will be 8 months pregnant and ready to pop. He brings out the white trash in me ha ha. I'm also partial to a bit of Limp Bizket.
Yawn.
Oh well your comments about him, proves my point about New Zealand music Journalists though.
Muse are a definite no-go - I interviewed Chris from Muse last week and he indicated it will be at least June 2010 before they get down here, and mentioned US shows in January.
I've got my ticket for Soundwave in Brisbane already. Just need to save up and get airfares haha!
I have no idea about Big Day Out, though Eminem would be interesting to see just for the sake of seeing him. Blur and Weezer would be nice headliners. Limp Bizkit can go straight to hell though.
I hadn't planned on going this year, but if Blur is there then I suppose I'll have to!
Please dear god not Limp Bizkit. Eminem would be OK I guess - given they generally schedule the best acts at the same time as the headliners, at least its a headliner I would be happy to skip.
Muse would have been great, FNM the same (but unlikely). If we can't have FNM, the reformed Blur or Pixies would be just as welcome. Also have my fingers crossed for any of Animal Collective, Yeasayer, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fleet Foxes, The Veils, Justice, MIA, Tool or Mastodon (but as usual I'm not holding my breath after the breathtaking crapness of Pendulum last year).
With FNM on soundwave i'm hoping they'll come and do a one off show or even hit wellington and CHCH up as well on their own tour. I'd see them on BDO but i don't think they'll do that with them being on soundwave and all.
I'm picking... Deftones, The Offspring, Limp Bizkit or Blink, one of them to come, not that i'm stoked or anything but that's what i see in the crystal ball.
