Best links of the week

p1. Trailer: Prince of Persia: If you're a computer geek like me, you'll have fond memories of collecting amulets and fighting baddies in Prince of Persia 2. Even if you don't remember that, you'll probably get a kick out of seeing a swashbuckling and incredibly buff Jake Gyllenhaal in this movie version of the game. Release date is set for May 27.

2. Mind Eraser, No Chaser - Them Crooked Vultures: Another newbie from the supergroup to end all supergroups that was released as a free download on iTunes this week. Anyone else excited?

3. Give Blood - Kyp Malone: The TV on the Radio singer shows off his gigantic beard in the new video for his first solo single. That big furry thing is so big it needs its own hotel room.

4. I Wish it was Christmas Today - Julian Casablancas: At least it's nothing like Bob Dylan's Christmas album.

5. Aotearoa - Minuit: This will make all those expats on their OE homesick. Heck, even if you're in New Zealand you'll probably feel a little homesick after watching this.

6. Undisclosed Desires - Muse: The latest Muse video begs the question, has Timbaland sued them yet? Why not?

7. I'm Your Daddy - Weezer: Kids, a choir and a stand-in drummer all show up during Weezer's latest appearance on The Late Show. Why, I'm not sure, but I like the song.

8. Zephyr - Basement Jaxx: A new EP from Basement Jaxx, recorded before recent album Scars, is now available for a free listen.

9. 3 - Britney Spears: For a song about threesomes, the new Britney video is surprisingly lacklustre. Pretty catchy though. Not that I'd admit that in a public forum. Oh. Whoops.

10. Trailer: How to Train a Dragon: It's from the guys behind Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, so it's a bit more cutesie than those Pixar releases. Probably one for the kids. Due for release March 25.

That Crooked Vultures track is like Pere Ubu meets Foo Fighters.

You hear a wonderful song like Minuit's 'Aotearoa' and then read of people like Hone Harawira tearing this country apart with his hate.

Suprise Suprise, Chris has mentioned Britney in another one of his posts.

What a gross leading man...helps when mummy's a casting director...

Asha   #6   11:53 am Nov 09 2009

Surprise, surprise, Brett Dale is hating on Chris again.

Jake Gyllenhaal seems like entirely the wrong person for Prince of Persia, WTF?

maz   #7   02:53 pm Nov 09 2009

@ Asha - Totally agree with you re Jake's casting - seems more like a role for Brendan Fraser. Yeuck.

@Maz and Asha

I agree Jake Gyllenhaal as a middle eastern guy in genie pants just seems wrong... I remember genie pants from Prince of Persia (although I might be remembering the original not number 2) Even Brendan Fraser would be wrong. Perhaps Mr Gyllenhaal wants to prove to us that he can be the big buff action guy and not just the foppy dorky love interest.. hes err flexing his versitility? I'm thinking it will be much like Colin Farrell as Alexander... bad. very bad.

It's a shame too. The film looks like quite a bit of fun. And it's not even that his performance looks bad as such, just that he looks conspicuously wrong.
