What is the best show on TV right now?

Last updated 13:40 18/02/2010

breakingThere's no denying it - this is a golden age for television. Never before have we had so many great dramas, incredible comedies, brilliantly animated cartoons and downright bonkers crazy shows to pick and choose from.

Has anyone else seen Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job? I don't know how this show ever got made, but I'm glad it did. And it proves my point perfectly - there really is something for everyone out there.

But this blog isn't about random comedy shows you've probably never heard of. What I want you guys to tell me today is, what is the best show on TV right now?

By "right now", the show you choose to answer that question with can't have been cancelled yet. They still need to be making it. It's my blog, so play by my rules. And anyway, we all know what the greatest show ever made is: It's The Wire. No contest.

That means you also can't choose The Sopranos, because that ended - or wimped out, if you will - already. It also counts out Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and, er, Baywatch. Please don't write Baywatch. I'll cry.

I don't care if you choose something random that hasn't screened in New Zealand yet and you think no one else knows about it. Write it down below. And I don't want to hear about how you're watching these shows. Save that discussion for your lawyer.

I just want to know what you think the best show being made right now is.

Now, I watch and love a lot of TV, probably more than is healthy, and I had quite a hard time choosing an answer to this question. Entourage, The Office (US), Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mad Men, Modern Family, 24, Dexter, True Blood, Lost, South Park, Californication, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Man vs Wild and Family Guy are all awesome, must-watch shows in my book.

But the one series I'm hanging out for the next season of, checking and rechecking Wikipedia for news of, and pretty much just salivating over constantly, is Breaking Bad. Every episode is a hand-wringer, every scene is as gritty as gravel, and every little bit of tension is wrung out of even the simplest things.

Who knew a teddy bear's eye floating in a swimming pool could be quite so creepy?.

I love this show so much I get jealous when I hear people have just discovered how good it is because I want to go back and rediscover it again. If you want to know, season three begins on March 21 in America. Let's hope C4 has it here as soon as possible after that date.

Now it's over to you. Decide what you think the best TV show on screen right now is, and post it below. And don't go breaking the rules, or I'll go all Walter White on ya.

Have to agree with "breaking bad". That and Dexter are the only 2 shows I watch at the moment.

'The golden age of tv"? You've got to be joking! Just because there's MORE programs doesn't make them better than the 60s and 70s! The amount of rubbish on tv is quite incredible at the moment, in my humble opinion.

The best show on tv? Mad Men, by a country mile. The doco series "around the world in eighty trades" on the doco channel is also very interesting and gives a good insight into business in third world countries and how tough it can.

In terms of 'trash' the big bang theory and family guy are favorites. Other than those mentioned I don't watch any other shows at the moment.

I am enjoying on the comedy Channel "Fur TV" muppets on acid warning tho rampant drug alcohol and sex abound.

Reality is so last century

Sons Of Anarchy.....shows that are in the "I'm Sad They Ended But People Should Hunt Them Down And Watch Them Anyway" category include "Trailer Park Boys". Jim Lahey sees into the hearts of men... "He grew up as a little sh*t-spark from the old sh*t-flint, then he turned into a sh*t-bonfire, and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging sh*t-firestorm."

Tough choice, there really is a lot of good shows on.

Dexter, Breaking Bad, Burn Notice, White Collar all rock

But would have to say Fringe is the best on the box at the moment.

Mad Men. Hands down crazy good. If I could pick one that hasn't been cancelled but probably won't have anymore episodes then State of Play (the BBC series) was amazing.

24 and House are current favourites that are on TV right now. If only Jack Bauer was a Dr!

Band Of Brothers (I may be braking your precise rules but I am king of the net, so yeah)

It's only a golden age - because of the overwhelming amount of complete carp that is being pushed out of the assends of TV studios.

Reality TV means that we can never, ever, ever have a golden age of TV ever again. Ever.

The Big Bang Theory is the best comedy on TV since Seinfeld.

I'm going to have to [talk to my lawyer] the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad - really wanted to catch it the first time around but never did.

I love your taste Chris, yeah Breaking Bad season 3 is gonna be epic. Tim and Eric is classic surrealist goodness. Not alot of great drama at the moment, as mentioned above Sons of Anarchy is really good. Been watching an FX animated comedy called Archer that's brilliantly crude about a misanthropic secret agent.
