Treaty Negotiations Minister Michael Cullen today signed terms of negotiation with Ngati Whatua o Kaipara.

The claims relate mainly to land purchased by the Crown. They have been under discussion for 16 years and two Waitangi Tribunal reports have been issued.

"It is important that the Crown and the South Kaipara claims committee are now commencing negotiations for the settlement of these historical Treaty claims," Dr Cullen said.
