September 2007: Drysdale becomes world champion for the third consecutive time.

September 2007: Waddell, just returned from Team New Zealand America's Cup campaign, is seen rowing on Lake Karapiro. Waddell says he is just keeping fit.

December 2007: Waddell beats Drysdale at a local regatta and declares his intentions to row at the Beijing Olympics.

January 2008: Waddell defeats Drysdale for a second time.

February 2008: Drysdale beats Waddell, making it 2-1 to Waddell.

February 23: At the New Zealand rowing championships, Waddell beats Drysdale comfortably.

Today: Trials begin for the selection of the Olympic single sculler.
