Teen seriously hurt in chair attack
A 19-year-old who was attacked with a chair in Mangere this morning remains in a serious but stable condition in Auckland City Hospital.
Two people have been arrested for firearms offences but a police spokeswoman said it was "unclear" whether the arrests were related to the attack.
The victim was assaulted in the driveway of a Winthrop Way home, about 3am.
He was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition but later transferred to Auckland Hospital.
Senior sergeant Kai Shao said police were looking for a number of other people in relation to the attack.
He said a chair with metal legs was the only weapon used and police believed the victim knew the assailants.
"There was an earlier altercation between the two groups and we are investigating whether the assault was the result of the previous altercation," Shao said.
Police have been unable to interview the victim but Shao said more serious charges could be laid depending on the outcome of his condition.
A police spokeswoman said inquiries are still continuing into the assault and another that happened at 8am in Ferguson St, Mangere where another man was hospitalised.
Details were unavailable on the status of the second victim but the spokeswoman said his injuries weren't as serious as the first assault.
