Four people escaped with moderate injuries this afternoon after their boat flipped at Muriwai Beach, west of Auckland.
The Fire Service was alerted to the accident just before 3pm and arrived to find the group in the water.
It was not clear why the boat had flipped.
The Coastguard rescued the people who were taken ashore with moderate injuries.
Life guards were stood down shortly after the call came through.
The boat subsequently sank.
