A West Auckland court was cleared this morning after insults were traded during the appearance of two men charged in relation to a fatal shooting in Ranui last week.

Allen George Lum, 41, and his 18-year-old son Trae Lorenz Lum appeared in Waitakere District Court charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. Both have pleaded not guilty.

While the teen was quickly remanded to another date, his father's appearance in the dock prompted insults from family of 23-year-old Josh Roach who was shot dead in his driveway.

Allen Lum replied with inflammatory comments as did his family who packed the public gallery.

The court eventually had to be cleared and adjourned for five minutes because of police safety concerns.

Allen Lum was remanded in custody while Trae Lum was bailed to a new address in Mt Roskill. Both are to reappear in court in August.

Trae Lum's curfew was relaxed and he was ordered not to travel to Ranui, Swanson or Henderson.

As Allen Lum's hearing ended he shouted "I love you" to his son before yelling abuse at officers as he was led away.

Friends and family paid tribute to Roach - a father of one - at his funeral in Henderson earlier this week.

The other man shot in the incident was Ricky Lum, 20 - another son of Allen Lum - is in a stable condition in hospital since undergoing surgery.
