Incident at Mt Eden Corrections Facility
Disobedient Mt Eden prisoners were visited by police and may face disciplinary charges after refusing orders from prison staff.
No-one was injured in the incident at Mt Eden Corrections Facility about 10.45am yesterday, a Serco New Zealand spokeswoman said.
She said it was a "localised" incident and there was no risk to the public.
Serco said the incident was "resolved quickly.
"Staff dealt with a disturbance caused by a small number of prisoners in one unit, who refused to comply with staff instructions," the spokeswoman said.
"Those prisoners involved may face internal disciplinary charges."
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said police were asked to help Mt Eden staff deal with the prisoners.
Serco said the Fire Service also attended as a precaution but they were not needed.
Mt Eden Prison director Gareth Sands said staff from Serco and the Department of Corrections resolved the incident in a professional manner.
