Severe weather warnings are in effect across Auckland until Wednesday morning, with both wind and rain expected to intensify over the next 24 hours.
Between 100-150mm of rain is expected to fall over the next two days, MetService Duty Forecaster Frances Russell said.
There was also the possibility of north-east gales tomorrow night until Wednesday morning becoming severe.
Due to the heavy rain and possible severe winds, the New Zealand Transport Agency is urging motorists to adjust to the conditions by reducing speeds and increasing following distances.
Weather is set to slowly improve throughout the week with sunnier spells returning.
