Knives drawn in cook off
Auckland chefs are set to cook up a combo of Masterchef and My Kitchen Rules in a new food fight.
Take the finesse of MasterChef, the public-judging of My Kitchen Rules, a sprinkle of competitive Auckland chefs and a dash of comedian and TV personality Jesse Mulligan and you've whipped up 'Kitchen Battles' - a competition taking place next Friday.
Competitors will show off their culinary prowess to impress judges Chef Michael Meredith of Merediths Restaurant and Julia Crownshaw, a judge on New Zealand's Hottest Home Baker.
Mulligan says the rivalry between hotel brands, general managers and the suppliers themselves is legendary.
"With the public deciding the winners on the night, it'll be my job to draw the battle lines and ensure the rules of engagement are followed without anybody spilling blood or tears."
Meredith and Crownshaw will ultimately weigh in on the final decision.
"Every General Manager likes to think they're a food critic, so it will be interesting to see what happens when it's their name on the line," says Meredith.
"Whilst there is a serious side to the judging, in the end this event is all about the kids.
My fellow judges and I are privileged to lend our support to such a worthy cause and to be a part of what is set to be a fun-filled night," he said.
Dishes are priced at $5 and food and beverage tokens will be on sale throughout the night.
All the proceeds from the sales will go to the Accor Race to Survive Fiji for Cure Kids, which raises vital funds needed for the work of Cure Kids in Fiji.
