Aucklanders have been treated to heavy thunderstorms and hail this afternoon with more to come.
MetService forecaster John Law said hail from 10 millimetres to 12mm in diameter was recorded with heavier falls towards the south of the city.
"That's because of a really heavy thunderstorm which moved through the city quite quickly."
Though hail was common, big beefy showers like the one which Auckland had just had were not that common this time of year, he said.
More showers, lightning and hail were possible today.
Tomorrow looked to be more settled.
