Investigation into child assault following fire
Police are investigating an assault on a child following a house fire in Auckland yesterday.
The fire on Mt Smart Rd appears to have been started by a child playing with lighter and the alleged assault is related, Eastern area inspector Mark Benefield said.
A man has been interviewed by police but it is not yet known if he will face charges, Benefield said.
The fire broke out just before 1.30pm.
Multiple 111 calls were made.
Part of Mt Smart Rd was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A man and a boy were taken to hospital.
One bedroom in the house is extensively damaged, fire investigator Lynda McHugh said.
Debate has surfaced again about whether or not the haka should be performed before an international rugby match. What do you think?Related story: (See story)
