A routine traffic checkpoint in South Auckland netted $6,000 in drugs, $16,000 in cash, a shotgun and a bail-breaching offender last night.

Police said the routine traffic stop turned into an extensive search when a small bag was found in the car.

Officers discovered a large quantity of cash and methamphetamine and a bag with a shotgun and ammunition.

Counties Manukau Central Area Commander Inspector Julia Lynch said the "good catch" came from teamwork.

"Our Road Policing Team, Public Safety Team, Tactical Crime Unit and Clendon Neighbourhood Policing Team all worked together to ensure that these two offenders will face appropriate charges without delay," she said.
