A man has handed himself in to police after a hit and run in South Auckland this morning.

Police say a dark green Ford Explorer and a motorcycle collided on Roscommon Rd in Manurewa. The driver of the SUV allegedly left without stopping after the crash.

The 19-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with facial and chest injuries.

Police were told of the accident at 6.40am. 

Following the crash, a man reported to Clendon Community police station. He was helping police with their inquiries.

Anyone who knew anything about the crash was asked to call police on 111 or report information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
