Dodgy legs thwart burglars' getaway
Two men, with only two good legs between them, have been arrested and charged with attempted burglary on the North Shore of Auckland.
The men in their 40s were noticed acting suspiciously by an officer patrolling Takapuna around 3.30am on Lake Rd.
He ran some checks and discovered the number plates did not match the vehicle. He then watched two men get into the car.
Both men had their faces hidden and one was holding a screw-driver.
A search of the car revealed a crowbar, hatchet and gloves as well as a piece of timber window frame from a nearby Michael Hill Jewellers store.
Police said the men's getaway was thwarted by the fact that one man had a prosthetic leg and the other had recently broken his leg.
They will appear in the North Shore District Court today charged with attempted burglary and possession of instruments for burglary.
