World Rally roars into town
Meet some of the best drivers in the worldBRIDGET JONES
Looking for something to do this weekend? We check out Auckland's best events and take a sneak peek at next week.
TVNZ 7's The Big Idea - from Sunday
Big ideas opened up, examined, critiqued and pinned as flight of fancy, unattainable, or something solid for New Zealand's future.
This five-part series, hosted by Tim Wilson, will discuss everything from solar power and population increase to the marketing of New Zealand and everything in between. Every show will be filmed for TVNZ 7, so this is your chance to listen to some interesting discussions and be on telly at the same time.
TVNZ 7's The Big Idea at The Cloud, starting 6pm June 17. Entry is free, but you will need to register on the TVNZ website.
New Zealand Rally Family Day - Sunday
Here for the seventh round of the World Rally Championship, this is your chance to meet some of the best drivers on the planet.
There will be autograph signing sessions from 12.30pm, cars - old and new - on display, face painting, a scooter race and some helpful motoring tips for mum and dad.
New Zealand Rally Family Day at Auckland Viaduct Event Centre from 10am, June 17. Entry is free.
Art in the Park Concert for the Birds - Friday
Beautiful lighting, a lovely setting and a recreation of one of her most famous gowns, this evening is all about the legendary Marlene Dietrich.
With a cabaret performance of 23 of her songs by Jennifer Ward-Lealand, this is a fundraising show for the Royal Forest and Bird Society to help threatened native birds.
Art in the Dark Concert for the Birds at Playhouse Theatre, Glen Eden, from 7.30pm, June 15. Tickets $35 for adults and $15 for kids.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Friday
There is nothing like a pelvic thrust, a step to the left and gold hot pants to set the mood for a date. Thank goodness then, Academy Cinema is hosting an interactive screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show this Friday.
Watch the sweet and innocent Brad and Janet lose that squeaky-clean image after rubbing shoulder with Rocky, Magenta and of course Dr Frank'n'Furter.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Academy Cinemas, 10pm, June 15. Tickets $18 from the venue.
Staying In/ Going Out
Stay home on Sunday night and test out New Zealand's latest TV comedy Golden. It's Olympic themed, it's about rowing and the characters are a little bit delusional - sounds perfect to me.
Pop Up Dining are the new kings around town, and this Friday they are pulling out an old favourite - lamb. On the menu is everything from sheep's head meat with lemon, parsley and garlic yoghurt, through to short ribs. But book now - the last event they held was a sell out.
Golden, TV3 Sunday at 7pm
Pop Up Dining: A Lamb Odyssey at Crave Café, Morningside. Tickets $45 from www.popdining.com
