State Highway 1 reopened after crash temporarily closed road
A section of State Highway 1, just north of Puhoi, has reopened after being closed due to a multiple vehicle accident.
There is a 30km speed restriction through the crash site, and the New Zealand Transport Agency recommends avoiding the area, saying congestion is heavy.
The four vehicle crash happened just north of Puhoi between Warkworth and Silverdale at 3.50pm on Saturday.
Police say some of the people involved in the crash sustained moderate injuries.
New Zealand Transport Agency urge motorists to be patient and keep their eyes on the road.
Congestion and bad weather are being blamed for several crashes in Northland heading south to Auckland.
Heavy rain warnings for most of the country today. Please slow down on the roads and drive to the conditions ^TP https://t.co/dUs2NHtuKt— NZTA Akld & Nthlnd (@NZTAAkl) January 1, 2016
In Auckland, police attended a one car crash on the Onewa on-ramp travelling citybound.
The accident also happened around 3.50pm and police were working to clear the scene. The driver does not have any serious injuries.
Earlier in the day a crash was been reported on SH1 near the intersection with SH12 at Brynderwyn, which was cleared just after 1pm.
