Eight people injured in Whangaparaoa bus crash

The vehicle involved in the accident in which a heavily pregnant woman was travelling.

A car and bus have crashed injuring eight people on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, north of Auckland. 

Emergency services were responding to the report of the crash at around 3:45 on Red Beach Road, near Bay Street. 

Police said eight people had been injured - four from the car and four from the bus.

A spokeswoman from a nearby Four Square supermarket said the car was actually an SUV with two women and two children.

One of the women was heavily pregnant, she said.

"Nobody's hurt, everyone seems to be okay. The bus driver is in a bit of shock," she said.

Police said all injuries were moderate to minor. 

Red Beach Rd was closed to allow emergency crews to operate safely and diversions were put in place.
