An anti-royalist was arrested for preparing to commit an assault just before a visit by Prince Charles and Camilla to Auckland’s waterfront, police say.
The 74-year-old man was arrested at a venue on the royal itinerary near Britomart, although neither of the royal visitors were in the vicinity at the time, police said.
The man is due to appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow.
The royal couple visited a number of sights in Auckland today and were tonight at a Diamond Jubilee Trust cocktail event at SkyCity Convention Centre.
