Not many can say they turn 12 on the 12/12/2012, but for twins Geena and Max Hutton it will be a birthday to remember.

Tomorrow also marks their teacher Jason Irvine's 12th year at Wainui School and his 12th wedding anniversary, making the day an extra special one.

Spare time spent rehearsing for dancing roles on the Farmers Santa Parade and Saturday's Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park meant Geena and Max did not have much time to plan their big birthday.

"We'll have a small party with friends and family, a game of bowling and if there's time we might watch The Hobbit," Geena said.

"Mr Irvine says he has something planned for us involving a dozen eggs," Geena said.

December 12, 2012, is considered auspicious however some are nervous it may signal the end of the world, although it is often confused with December 21. The latter is the date some believe the Mayan calendar predicts the world will end.

NASA refutes the claims: "The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

"This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. That's linked at the end of one of the cycles of the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012, hence the date of December 21, 2012."
