Firefighters were this afternoon called out to a fire on a 10m (32 ft) launch sailing in the Hauraki Gulf.
Fire crews and the coastguard were alerted to an electrical fire aboard the yacht, carrying two people, about 2.40pm, a fire communications spokesman said.
A fire crew from the Parnell Fire Station boarded the police launch Deodar and took the 45 minute trip out to Anchorite Rock, between Cape Rodney and Cape Colville and east of Kawau Island.
The spokesman said the crew arrived at the private yacht about 3.45pm and had begun to extinguish the fire and ventilate the vessel.
One person suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
He said it was unclear whether the yacht would be able to continue to sail or whether it would have to be towed back to Auckland.
