Arrest made after fatal crash
A man has appeared in court for allegedly causing a fatal accident in Auckland early on Thursday morning.
Andrew Fausia, 19, appeared at the Auckland District Court this morning where he faced charges of operating a vehicle carelessly causing death and driving while disqualified.
The fatal crash, which killed David Sionepulu happened around 2.30am on Ngapipi Rd, Orakei on Thursday.
Inspector Willie Taylor said it appeared the car had come to a rest in the driveway of a house after becoming airborne, hitting trees and a fence.
Sionepulu was impaled on a fence.
A taxi driver and his passengers, who witnessed the accident, saw the driver of the crashed car "run off down the road", Taylor said.
Fausia, who is unemployed, was supported by his tearful parents in court this morning who refused to comment on their son.
He has been bailed to a Glen Innes address until he reappears in court next week.
