Auckland schoolboy seriously injured after being hit by car

The boy was hit near St Dominic's Catholic College in Henderson.

A West Auckland schoolboy has been seriously injured after being hit by a car on Friday afternoon.

The incident took place in Rathgar Rd near St Dominic's Catholic College about 3.30pm.

The 10-year-old boy was taken to Starship Hospital. 

Diversions were in place at the intersection of Rathgar Rd and Edwards Ave, and at the intersection of Rathgar Rd and Ti Nana Cres.

Police were warning motorists to avoid the area while emergency services were at the scene. 

The boy was in a stable condition in Starship Hospital on Friday evening, they said.

"Police are still investigating the crash scene and it's not known yet if charges will be laid."
