The police Eagle helicopter made an emergency landing in a suburban Auckland park after crew felt "unusual vibrations" on Friday afternoon.

Crew landed the chopper in Riversdale Reserve, Avondale "as per their emergency procedures", Police Inspector Vaughan Graham said.

"The helicopter is now undergoing a mechanical inspection and the crew has resumed work in a replacement aircraft."

A witness said the helicopter was being guarded by a police patrol car in the meantime.
