Emergency services were called to a truck fire near the Auckland Airport.

Delays are expected for Auckland Airport travellers after a truck caught fire on the main road from the city.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said a small truck caught alight on George Bolt Memorial Drive, airport-bound, on Monday morning before 8am.

Diversions were in place around the incident and motorists were urged to consider using Puhinui Rd instead.

The road was re-opened about 8.15am but the congestion would take a while to clear, the airport said.
