Speedboat beaches after Auckland Harbour yacht collision
A yacht was left with substantial damage after a launch crashed into it.
The 10 metre Genesis launch smashed into the yacht moored off Devonport's Victoria Wharf just after 11pm on Wednesday.
Coastguard Northern Region duty officer Melissa Ousey said the launch owner initially thought he'd hit rocks before radioing he'd collided with the yacht.
Holed, the launch carrying two people was beached to prevent it from sinking, Ousey said.
Westpac Rescue's helicopter, which was called out with Coastguard's Lion Foundation launch, reported the unoccupied yacht received "substantial stern damage", Ousey said.
No one was hurt in the collision.
Auckland harbourmaster and the police are investigating.
