No injuries in road clogging fire
Firefighters from around Auckland rushed to a blaze on the second floor of a three-storey building in Newmarket today.
The Fire Service received several phone calls from the public at about 4.15pm resulting in a "second alarm," which attracted half a dozen fire trucks to the scene.
By 5pm a fire communications spokeswoman said the fire on Remuera Rd, thought to be at a commercial premises, was under control and there were still three trucks on site.
There was also a fire investigator on scene but it would be some time before there was an indication as to how the blaze started
Traffic was delayed at the intersection of Remuera Rd and Nuffield St as crews deal with the fire.
Parnell station officer John Barlow said it was fortunate that the area was busy and someone saw smoke as the alarm was only a manual system.
The fire was brought under control quickly, he said.
Barlow believed the offices were not tenanted.
