Let it snow in Massey
Massey will get three truckloads of snow for an upcoming festival.
The Snow in the Park festival is back on June 18, bringing a winter wonderland to Massey.
The event will feature a toboggan run, snowboard area for under six-year-olds and sled racing demonstrations with siberian huskies.
Henderson-Massey Local Board chairperson Shane Henderson said it was the third annual event.
People came from far and wide and they were expecting several thousand people, he said.
They get at least three truckloads of snow at around 4am from Snow Planet.
"We get out there and shovel it."
Everybody "mucks in" including the Snow Planet workers, and politicians, to get the snow onto the hill.
Henderson said his favourite part was the toboggan run.
"The heavier you are the faster you go."
He was getting faster every year, he said.
Henderson said it was inspired by the fact there may be Massey residents who have never seen snow.
"I was certainly one of those as well."
It was about getting the Massey community involved.
"It's a huge thing on the calender".
Other activities on the day included bumper-ball soccer, a climbing wall, bubble man, giant inflatable twister, bouncy castle, obstacle course, face painting and food stalls.
It was a family-centric day, to bring the kids along to, he said.
"We're really excited, it's going to go great guns."
Snow in the Park takes place on June 18 from 11am-3pm at Royal Reserve, off Beauchamp Drive, Massey.
