Jewellery valued at more than $25,000 was snatched when two Michael Hill Jeweller stores on Auckland's North Shore were hit by shoplifters within 30 minutes of each other.
A man entered the Takapuna store in Hurstmere Rd at 1.30pm on Saturday and asked to look at two $5000 gold chains, North Shore area commander Inspector Shanan Gray said.
The man then ran outside with the jewellery to a waiting car.
On the same day the Albany store inside the Westfield mall was targeted at 2pm when a man asked to view a $15,999 gold necklace before running off with it.
He was caught by mall security staff and will appear in the North Shore District Court on a shoplifting charge.
Gray said it was too early to speculate if it was the same person who stole from both stores.
