A man is in custody and under guard at Auckland Hospital with a gunshot injury to his leg.
Police said the 32-year-old's injury required surgery but no-one else is being sought in relation to the West Auckland incident which occurred around 6.30pm yesterday.
Investigations are continuing.
Police said the man is in custody for reasons unrelated to the gunshot wound.
The man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after he was found by a passing police patrol.
Police came across the man in Great North Road, Henderson.
Great North Road was closed between McLeod Road and Edmonton road while the scene was examined for evidence.
