Waitangi Day celebrations at the island's marae were a family affair with people of all ages enjoying the atmosphere.
Blue skies and a lack of wind saw a record number of Waihekeans attend the event at Piritahi Marae and the hangi sold out at lunch time.
The free entertainment and activities for all the family included face painting and a police obstacle course, plus waka ama rides and workshops on the origin of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Also represented were the health trust and Friends of the Street.
"What a top effort," says a Piritahi Hau Ora spokesperson. "It was heartening to see such a diverse cross section of the community not only attend but stay and enjoy the experience."
