PINT-SIZED FUN: Buddy is one of the horses who will feature in the Franklin Miniature Horse Club's open day this weekend.

Miniature horses are growing in popularity and the Franklin Miniature Horse Club has re-formed to help those wanting to know more.

The club's holding an open day this weekend.

People are encouraged to bring their own miniature horses to the open day which will showcase the variety of different activities on offer.

There'll be displays of the four main show categories  halter, trail, jumping and harness  and show horses will be available for people keen to try their hand at some of the activities.

Cart rides for children will be available for a gold coin donation and there'll be a sausage sizzle and drinks for sale.

After lunch there's a seminar for people seeking more in-depth information covering topics related to showing your horse. Entry to that is $5 per person.

The open day's a chance to learn how to prepare people and their horses for ribbon days or Christmas shows.

Plenty of knowledgeable club members will be on hand to offer advice.

The club offers shows, training days, fun shows, educational clinics, show preparation, how to clip and more.

New members are welcome to join. Call Amanda Wilson 027-726-0794 or Karin Wilson (09) 233-4080 or email riverhillsfarm@slingshot.co.nz for more information.

The open day is on Sunday from 11am at the Franklin A&P Showgrounds in Pukekohe.
