After a few delays, and plenty of anticipation, IKEA supplier MyFlatPack is set to open in Auckland this week.
The retailer will expand its online business to a Newmarket showroom on Thursday, all going to plan.
Landlord renovations meant the Roxburgh St showroom couldn't open as planned in mid-October.
MyFlatPack manager TJ Whimp says the showroom has attracted plenty of interest from online customers.
When an Auckland Now article linked to their website in August, overwhelming traffic crashed its servers.
At the time Facebook fan pages had been rife with speculation an IKEA store was opening at Auckland's Westgate Shopping Centre, but the speculations were unfounded.
According to Paul Keane, a retail consultant, Australian company Cebas, who have the rights to open the first New Zealand IKEA, have been reluctant to open shop in the current economic climate.
Whimp says MyFlatPack is looking to open on Thursday and says there will be items on sale on opening day.
The new store will be located at 2 Roxburgh St, Newmarket.
