Flowers, foliage, fruit and floral art will abound at the Whangaparaoa Horticultural Society’s 43rd Summer Show next month.
The show is on Friday, November 7, 2pm to 4pm, and Saturday, November 8, 9am to 3.15pm, at the Whangaparaoa Hall, next to Pacific Plaza.
A big showing from the society’s 180 enthusiastic gardeners and garden lovers is expected, while people wanting to exhibit their own garden produce are welcome too.
Patron Bob Duncan will open the show at 2pm on the Friday and also present trophies following the show at 2.30pm on Saturday. There are 90 classes, including roses, gladiolus, general flowers and foliage, house plants, fruit and vegetables, and floral art. The ever popular children’s section is available to those wanting to show a fruit or vegetable creation, vaseline saucer, flowers, a small planted garden and a plant in a pot, grown and cared for entirely by the child.
Entry to the hall is $2, with no further cost to exhibit.
For a show schedule and entries contact Judy on 428-0326 by noon, Thursday, November 6. All entries must be staged by 10am on Friday, November 7.
The society meets on the third Monday of the month and welcomes new members. It also has bi-monthly shows.
Meetings include a guest speaker with practical gardening and growing tips, a trading table with reasonably priced plants, raffles and a cup of tea. Alternate months, there are coach trips, locally and further afield to view some beautiful and fascinating gardens. Once a year there is an extended coach tour, visiting gardens throughout the North Island.
Inquiries, contact Heather on 424-2253.
