Thunder and heavy rain poured from the skies above Auckland this morning but forecasters say the bad weather won't last.
The city is in for a mixture of heavy rain and fine spells this week but Friday and Saturday should be reasonably fine.
MetService duty forecaster John Law said today's weather would improve as the day progresses.
"We've got this cold front stretched across Auckland at the moment and it's bringing this wet, thundery weather but that's moving away towards the west and the east and it should be clearing through fairly quickly, so you will find the weather improves during the day today."
However, there would be a few showers, including a band that will run through later this afternoon, and southwesterly winds.
It will be wet around midday tomorrow and the afternoon will be a mix of fine spells and showers.
Wednesday and Thursday would also feature showers mixed with fine spells as well as some wind, Law said.
Meanwhile, temperatures would remain reasonably consistent, peaking around 15 degrees C and dropping to around 10C.
