Fake gun scare in city
A man carrying an imitation gun down Dominion Rd sparked a large police call-out late this afternoon.
Senior Sergeant Greg Sowter, of Auckland central, said around 4.15pm police received about 20 reports of a man carrying a long barrelled gun in the Dominion Rd area.
"It turned out to be an occupant of a nearby lodge that had found an imitation gun from a dumpster and carried it home," he said.
"He was oblivious to the issues he had caused."
About eight police cars and the Eagle helicopter were sent to the area to search for the man.
Sowter said the man was compliant with officers and there were no issues. He will likely be charged with carrying an imitation fire arm.
The call out caused traffic delays in the area.
