After weeks of rain, an Auckland weather webcam has captured what is claimed to be the city's clearest day in recorded history.
The Sitecam website and cameras have been running for two years and director Steve Thomson says Sunday was easily one of the clearest days he has seen.
"Often on those clearer days it's a bit hazy or there is fog, but it was as clear as a bell."
MetService's John Law says the good weather is due to stick around for a few more days.
"I think you have a couple of fantastic days at least, with this high pressure keeping the skies nice and clear during the days...there are plenty of blue skies across the area."
The clear weather should remain over Auckland until Thursday or Friday, with clouds slowly creeping back over the city.
Law says one downside of the good weather is the chilly night time temperature.
Last night, the temperature dropped to freezing at Whenuapai, while central Auckland got down to 3 degrees C.
"Although we get that brilliant sunshine during the day, as soon as the sun sets we lose that heat, and without that blanket of cloud to insulate things, the temperature can drop away very quickly."
