A teenager has been convicted of murdering another teen after making a surprise guilty plea today.
The 18-year-old, who has name suppression, pleaded guilty in the High Court at Auckland to murdering Warren Rosillo, 18, on July 29 last year.
Rosillo died of stab wounds following an incident at a party in Pakuranga.
His killer has been in custody since the week following the murder.
Defence lawyer Nigel Cooke today asked the court to permanently suppress his client's name, because there were concerns for his welfare in prison if his identity was made public.
The hearing was adjourned until Friday, where the court will hear suppression arguments.
Sentencing has been set down for September 24.
