The west Auckland Plunket Karitane family centre’s gala day on Saturday is to raise money for its services.

The Woodford Ave building in Henderson doesn’t get government aid and needs funds to renovate the kitchen and create more parking.

Plunket nurse Joan Miller says they focus on helping mums from the birth to learning to care for their child in the most appropriate way.

"We help with everything from getting your child to sleep, to breastfeeding, to how to do a baby massage."

The gala day will be from 10am to 2pm, with clothes stalls, sausage sizzles and face-painting. It is hoped people will visit after the Santa Parade on Great North Rd.

The centre is at 5 Woodford Ave, Henderson. To volunteer to help on the day call 836-5730.
