Drunken duo in motorway mayhem
Saturday night drinks often result in a few sore heads on Sunday morning but none could compare to that of a 21-year-old Auckland man this weekend.
He and his friend were being driven by a sober driver along the Southwestern Motorway in the early hours of yesterday morning when the driver pulled over to allow one of the men to vomit.
After the man emptied the contents of his stomach, he ran out into traffic, inviting cars to hit him.
Fortunately, he returned to the car unscathed but an argument between he and the other intoxicated male erupted.
His friend opened the car door threatening to jump out and when the car neared Manukau he made good on that threat - jumping out of the car while it sped along at 80kmh.
The 21-year-old was rushed to hospital by ambulance in a critical state. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Police breath tested the driver and the Serious Crash Unit attended the scene. No charges were laid.
